Santa Ana City Manager Received $315k in Severance Pay
Santa Ana City Manager David Cavazos was relieved of his duties January 17, but will receive a severance payout of approximately $315,000.
After a closed-session meeting, the City Council voted 4-2 to approve an immediate “separation on amicable terms.” Mr. Cavazos was an at-will employee subject to termination without cause, but had a contract that included severance pay.
His severance payment includes approximately $3,500 in attorney fees and a payout of unused vacation time.
Last year, Mr. Cavazos was censured by the International City/County Management Association for having a relationship with a subordinate employee. (Source: Orange County Register, January 17.)
