County Adds $100,000 Near End of One-Year, $190,000 Contract

San Luis Obispo County supervisors last year contracted with an outside labor negotiator for $190,000 for the current fiscal year. Now, with the end of the fiscal year approaching in June, the supervisors have voted to give the contractor an additional $100,000.

The county said the massive increase for Renne Sloan Holtzman Sakai LLP, for services provided between now and June 30, is needed because the firm's work in making major changes to pensions and the negotiating process is taking more time than expected.

A contributing factor is that government employee unions have sued, and one union extended the process by fighting an internal leadership battle.
