An Inderkum High School staff member was put on paid leave May 12 after auditors found at least $48,000 missing from the Associated Student Body Account at the Sacramento-area school.
Additionally, Natomas Unified School District officials said $167,000 was found in a safe and in drawers, instead of being deposited in the bank.
The funds support several student activities and clubs on campus, and the money is primarily generated from fundraisers, football games and the prom, the district said.
The district sent a letter alerting parents that the district has hired an accounting firm to examine the scope of misconduct. The letter stated that the school district may turn over any findings to law enforcement.
The school district will transfer $48,000 in the student account to cover the losses. (Source: The Sacramento Bee, May 4.)
