Los Angeles City Council Member Arrested on Corruption Charge

Los Angeles City Council Member Jose Huizar was arrested June 23 and charged with one count of conspiring to violate the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act.

Huizar became the fifth and most high-profile person to be arrested in an ongoing corruption investigation in which officials at City Hall allegedly accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars in bribes from real estate developers. He appeared in federal court and was released on a $100,000 bond.

City Council Member Mitch Englander pleaded guilty to bribery charges earlier this year. (Source: CBSN Los Angeles, June 23.)
