Morro Bay High School Principal Dan Andrus has resigned from his post, but will continue to be paid $162,000 annually in salary and benefits, for up to a year, as an administrator on special assignment.
Mr. Andrus remains employed on the “special assignment” with the San Luis Coastal Unified School District while Assistant Principal Kathy Buehler takes over as interim principal of Morro Bay High.
The resignation reportedly was part of an agreement between Mr. Andrus and district administrators. Superintendent Eric Prater did not provide details, but said the decision was not based on any unprofessional or unsatisfactory conduct. Mr. Prater added that he doesn’t think the former principal will continue to work for the district much longer, but said that in the meantime he will be asked to help with curriculum and professional development.
Mr. Andrus was hired by the district in the middle of the 2006-07 school year as an assistant principal at the high school, and was promoted to principal in 2009. He was on paid medical leave from February 7 to February 19, followed by paid administrative leave through March 7, when he resigned his position and took the special assignment.
