Sacramento County has more than 10,000 uncashed checks totaling $2.4 million waiting to be claimed – including checks for the Franchise Tax Board – according to a list posted online by the county.
KCRA-TV broadcasted a report May 2 in which the station called people on the list and notified them that the county is holding money that they can claim.
CalTax reviewed the county’s list and found numerous government agencies that should have been easy for the county to find to arrange a payment. For example, the list includes 12 items for the California Department of Motor Vehicles and four items, totaling $712.45, where the FTB is listed as the payee. Three listings, totaling $361.88, list the payee as the California Victim Compensation Board, which shares a building with the Office of Tax Appeals.
Also included on the county’s list are the Department of Veterans Affairs, and the police departments in Folsom, Galt and Sacramento.
