San Diego Approved Pay Raises While Complaining About Cuts

A San Diego city memo obtained by the Voice of San Diego indicates that the city approved pay raises for 5,110 city workers even as officials claimed to make cuts and freeze salaries in 2009.

The memo provided detailed information on city payroll data, which was requested by City Council members. City officials also learned that a number of hefty bonuses were approved. News of the payroll information comes as the city is negotiating with labor unions on city worker pay. (Source: Voice of San Diego, February 27.)
