San Francisco’s Central Subway won’t be completed until 2021, more than a year later than the city projects, according to a report by the tunnel’s main contractor.
Tutor Perini Corp. additionally said the $1.6 billion project is running tens of millions of dollars over budget.
In a report given to San Francisco supervisors in an effort to enlist their help in a contract dispute with the Municipal Transportation Agency, Tutor Perini blamed a string of “infrastructure delays,” including having to relocate power lines and encountering harder-than-expected rock while boring tunnels.
In October, an independent monitor concluded that the subway will be done in December 2019, two years earlier than Tutor Perini’s estimate. City officials are sticking with the monitor’s estimate. (Source: San Francisco Chronicle, December 5.)
