If there were a Forbes 15 list for California local government, David Cavazos would be number two. The new city manager of Santa Ana will be paid half a million dollars annually, making him one of the highest paid public employees in the state. Mr. Cavazos, who is coming to Santa Ana after working as the city manager of Phoenix, will receive a total compensation package of $558,625.
Mr. Cavazos’ base-pay is $315,000, but benefits – including annual housing expenses, one-time moving costs, and insurance benefits – will push his salary past the $500,000 mark. (Source: Los Angeles Times, August 7).
